What Is Microneedling?

Collagen Induction Therapy for Skin Rejuvenation.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that creates controlled microchannels in the skin, supporting the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin. It can help improve skin tone, texture, elasticity, fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, and the appearance of scars.

At Curated Medical, each treatment is tailored to your skin goals and may be paired with hyaluronic acid, platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), or peptide serums when appropriate. Microneedling may be suitable for many skin types and tones, but a consultation is the best way to determine the right approach for you.

How Does Microneedling Work?

Understanding the Process.

At Curated Medical, a trained provider uses a precision micropen to create controlled microchannels in the skin. This stimulates the body’s natural healing response and supports collagen and elastin production, helping improve skin tone, texture, fine lines, wrinkles, pores, and the appearance of scars.

For the best results, you’ll start with a series of 3 to 6 sessions spaced about a month apart. This allows your skin time to heal and build new collagen between treatments. Once you’ve achieved your desired results, you can maintain your fresh, glowing complexion with 2 to 4 sessions per year.

Your treatment may also be paired with hyaluronic acid, platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), or peptide serums when appropriate. Your provider will recommend the best options based on your skin, concerns, and desired results.

What Are the Benefits of Microneedling?

The Positive Results.

Microneedling can improve several common skin concerns at once, including signs of aging, uneven texture, enlarged pores, pigmentation, and scars. By supporting collagen and elastin production, it helps skin look smoother, firmer, and more even-toned over time.

Potential benefits include:

  • Smoother skin texture
  • Reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improved skin tone and elasticity
  • Minimized appearance of enlarged pores
  • Improved appearance of acne scars, stretch marks, and other scars
  • Gradual, natural-looking skin rejuvenation
  • Minimal downtime compared with more aggressive resurfacing treatments

At our med spa, each treatment is tailored to your skin concerns and goals. Depending on your needs, your provider may recommend hyaluronic acid, platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), or peptide serums as part of your treatment plan.

What to Expect

Understanding the Procedure.

When you book an appointment at our Scottsdale med spa, your microneedling session typically lasts about an hour, including skin preparation and topical numbing cream for comfort. During treatment, a precision micropen creates controlled microchannels in the skin based on your treatment area and goals.

After the procedure, your skin may look red and feel warm or dry, similar to a mild sunburn. Redness typically improves within 48 hours, while dryness or flaking may last several days and, for some patients, up to 5–7 days. Avoid makeup and strenuous exercise for the first 48 hours, and follow the post-treatment skincare instructions provided by your provider.

Results and Recovery
Microneedling results develop gradually as your skin heals and produces new collagen and elastin. You may notice improvements in the weeks following treatment, with continued refinement over time. Depending on your concerns and goals, a series of treatments may be recommended.

Your Questions Answered.

Microneedling may be appropriate for adults who want to improve skin texture, fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne scars, uneven tone, stretch marks, or mild skin laxity. A consultation allows your provider to review your skin, health history, and goals before recommending a treatment plan.

Microneedling may be suitable for many skin types and tones. However, treatment settings and aftercare should be tailored to your skin to help minimize the risk of irritation or temporary pigmentation changes. Your provider will determine whether microneedling is appropriate for you.

A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to improve comfort. You may feel light pressure, prickling, or warmth during the procedure, but discomfort varies depending on the treatment area and your individual sensitivity.

Treatment may need to be postponed if you have an active skin infection, rash, open wound, sunburn, or significant irritation in the treatment area. Be sure to tell your provider about your medications, medical conditions, and any recent procedures so they can determine whether microneedling is right for you.

Some patients choose a single treatment for a refreshed appearance, while others benefit from a series. Depending on your concerns and goals, your provider may recommend approximately three to six treatments spaced about four to six weeks apart. Maintenance treatments may be recommended as needed.

Results develop gradually as your skin heals and produces new collagen and elastin. You may notice improvements in the weeks following treatment, with continued refinement over time. Results vary from person to person and may be maintained with personalized skincare and follow-up treatments.

Follow the preparation instructions provided by your provider. You may be asked to avoid excessive sun exposure and temporarily pause certain exfoliating or irritating skincare products. Tell your provider about all medications, skincare products, recent treatments, and any history of sensitivity or pigmentation concerns.

Professional microneedling is performed by a trained provider using a medical device and treatment settings selected for your skin and goals. At-home devices may not provide the same level of control and can increase the risk of irritation, infection, or skin damage when used improperly.

Microneedling and laser resurfacing use different technologies and may be recommended for different skin concerns. Microneedling creates controlled microchannels in the skin, while laser treatments use light-based energy. Your provider can recommend the most appropriate option based on your skin, concerns, downtime preferences, and desired results.
