A PDO thread lift is an outpatient aesthetic procedure that uses threads made out of polydioxanone (PDO) which is a dissolvable suture material. These threads can be used to lift the skin (in the cheeks and jawline) or they can be used to build collagen and tighten skin. The collagen-building threads can be used in the under eyes, for fine lines, tightening the skin under your chin, neck, abdomen, or other body areas.

What are the benefits of getting a PDO thread lift?
PDO threads are used for the purposes of facial contouring and lifting. A PDO Threadlift is a non-surgical treatment. PDO threads stimulate collagen, which makes the skin thicker and stronger (resulting in less laxity).
How is a PDO thread lift performed?
During a PDO thread lift appointment, we will first clean your skin and create markings on the areas we want to treat. We will then inject lidocaine to numb the area (this is typically the most painful part of the procedure). A needle will be used to create an opening in the skin and insert the threads into the subcutaneous fat using a cannula. Typically we use threads to lift the cheeks, jowls, and neck. The whole procedure takes about an hour.
Who is a good candidate for PDO threads?
PDO threads are best for patients with mild to moderate laxity. Patients with more severe laxity will often need a surgical facelift.
Is it painful?
Because we inject lidocaine in the area, PDO threads are not very painful during the procedure. It is common, however, to have pain or soreness once the lidocaine wears off. This may last for a few days to a week or longer. Some patients also experience “zingers” during the first month or so.
What do I need to do before and after my thread lift?
Before your procedure, you may be advised to avoid alcohol, turmeric, NSAIDs, and fish oil supplements. After your PDO thread lift, there are a few important things you should know. For the first 5 days, you will need to avoid exercise and exaggerated facial movements. You will also need to sleep on your back. Facial treatments need to be avoided for one month after your procedure. It is common to have soreness, swelling, and possible bruising for a couple of days as well as “zings” or pulling feelings for a couple of weeks.
Is there any downtime after the procedure?
Yes, there is downtime after threads and it is important to follow post-treatment instructions for best results. You may experience pain or soreness for days to weeks after a thread lift. You will also have swelling and possible bruising. For the week after a thread lift, it is important to avoid exercise, exaggerated facial expressions, and foods that are chewy or tough. For the month after treatment, you need to avoid other facial treatments.
How do they work?
PDO threads work by stimulating collagen. After the threads are inserted, your body builds collagen around the thread. As the thread dissolves, the new collagen works to maintain the result.
When will I see results?
You will see a result immediately after the procedure, although the results will change over the first couple of weeks. At first you will have swelling which makes the results look more dramatic. After 1-3 weeks you will see the final result from your PDO threads. This result will last around a year.
Are there different types of thread available?
Yes but at Curated Medical we only offer PDO threads. There are two types of PDO threads, smooth and barbed. Barbed threads are used for lifting. Smooth threads are used for collagen building and are great for fine lines and crepey skin. Smooth threads do not require the downtime of barbed threads. We will often use smooth threads in the glabella (11’s) in addition to Botox or Dysport.
How much does a PDO thread lift cost?
For barbed threads, we charge $1000 for the first area, $800 for the second, and $600 for each subsequent area done in the same visit. Areas include: the cheeks, jowls or jawline, and neck. Smooth threads cost $250-500 per area.
