What Is Botox?

Elevate Your Features.

Botox is an FDA-approved neuromodulator that relaxes targeted facial muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles. These are the lines that form over time from repeated movement, like frowning, squinting, and raising your brows. Botox in Scottsdale is a popular option for clients who want a smoother, more rested appearance without surgery or downtime.

At Curated Medical, your treatment plan is customized to your anatomy, goals, and lifestyle. Our focus is always balanced, natural-looking results that still look like you.

How Does Botox Work?

Understanding the Process

Botox is a neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes the specific muscles that create dynamic wrinkles from repeated facial movement, like frowning, squinting, or raising your brows. As those muscles relax, the skin above them appears smoother while your overall expression still looks natural.

Treatment is precise and personalized. Your injector maps placement based on your facial anatomy and goals so results look balanced, not frozen. Results typically begin to appear within a few days, with full effects around 10-14 days, and most clients enjoy results for about 3-4 months. We may also discuss Dysport injections as another neuromodulator option.

What to Expect.

Understanding the Procedure.

Your appointment at our Scottsdale office is quick and straightforward. Most visits take about 30 minutes, including consultation, treatment planning, and injections. We’ll review your health history, assess facial movement, and map precise injection points based on your goals.

The injections use a very fine needle and are usually well tolerated. You may notice small bumps or mild redness at injection points right after treatment; this typically settles quickly. Most clients return to normal daily activity the same day.

Botox is an FDA-approved neuromodulator, expertly used at Curated Medical to treat and prevent wrinkles. It limits muscle movement, reducing dynamic lines and wrinkles for a safe, minimally invasive, and instantly rejuvenated appearance.”

Botox is very quick! Typically, your first appointment will be about half an hour, during which we will do a consultation and discuss your health history and goals. The injections themselves only take a couple of minutes! It takes 2 weeks to see the results.

Most of our clients come in for Botox every 3-4 months.

You can’t do anything to make your Botox last longer, unfortunately. The one thing that impacts how long it will last is the dose you are receiving, so it is important that you get the amount recommended to you.

You will be asked to make faces or “animate” to show where the muscle movement is. These areas will then be injected with a very small needle. You will feel little to no discomfort from the injections, most people are surprised by how quick and easy it is! Right after the treatment, you will have little pockets of fluid from where the Botox was injected, these will resolve in about 30-40 minutes. Small bruises do occasionally occur.

Botox has very few side effects. It’s actually one of the safest medications there is! Bruising may occur due to the needle pokes, although these are usually very small. Some people also experience a headache after treatment.

Yes! Botox was first FDA-approved in 1989 and has 11 therapeutic indications and 3 (soon to be 4) cosmetic indications. What does this mean? It means this injectable treatment is extremely well researched! A clinical trial is done for each of these indications, and side effects are studied. Many patients are concerned about Botox being botulism. However, it is only a purified protein, not a bacteria that could cause harm.

It can sometimes help with under eye wrinkles. We can inject what we call the “jelly roll” which can relax these wrinkles a bit in addition to crows feet treatment. We also like to use specific skincare products and build collagen with Vivace radiofrequency microneedling for under eye wrinkles.

For 4 hours after your treatment, avoid touching or applying pressure to the treatment area. This also means no eyelash or eyebrow appointments the day of your treatment! You will also need to avoid exercise for the rest of the day.

You can stop getting Botox at any time and you will regain the muscle movement that causes wrinkles to form. If you have been getting this injectable treatment for many years and decide to stop, you may notice changes because your skin has still been aging during the time you were receiving treatments.

We charge $13/unit with an average of 40-70 units needed.
