Over time, many of our clients notice that they lose volume in their lips, and they start to see more wrinkles forming. Other clients just want a little more shape and hydration in their lips. Either way, lip filler is a great option!

What Are Lip Fillers?

Lip fillers, also referred to as “lip injections,” are a type of dermal filler used to enhance the volume and shape of the lips. The primary component of most lip fillers is hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance naturally found in the body that helps hold water in the tissue and hydrate the area.

Types of Lip Fillers

There are several types of fillers, each with specific properties to achieve different results:

  • Juvederm®: This popular HA-based filler comes in several formulations, such as Juvederm Ultra XC for fuller and plumper lips and Juvederm Volbella XC for fine lines and a more subtle look.
  • Restylane®: Another HA-based filler, Restylane offers options like Restylane Kysse and Restylane-L, which provide smoothness and a natural look.
  • RHA: RHA2, RHA3, and Redensity are HA-based fillers that can provide anything from subtle hydration to shape and volume in the lips.
  • Revanesse Lips+: Lips+ is another HA-based filler that is great for the lips and provides soft volume in this area.

Benefits of Lip Fillers

There are many advantages to lip fillers, which include:

  • The process is relatively fast and carries a low risk of complications.
  • You can notice immediate results after the treatment (although you will be swollen for a few days!).
  • They can smooth out fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth.
  • If you’re not satisfied, the effects are temporary, and adjustments can be made.
  • You can choose the level of fullness you want.
  • They can boost your self-esteem.
  • They can enhance your appearance, add volume and shape, giving you fuller, well-shaped lips.

Potential Risks and Side Effects of Lip Fillers

However, there are potential risks and side effects. Common, mild side effects include:

  • Swelling, light bruising, and redness around the injection site, which can last up to a few days
  • Minor bleeding
  • Pain or discomfort

More serious complications are pretty rare but can include:

  • Skin infections
  • Allergic reactions
  • Cold sores flaring up
  • Uneven results if the filler is not distributed evenly, but this can be corrected
  • Tissue damage, which could cause scarring or even tissue death in severe cases

Will Lip Fillers Ruin Your Lips?

Lip fillers, especially those made from hyaluronic acid, are generally safe and don’t ruin your lips when administered by experienced professionals like Curated Medical. The key is to not do too much filler, where you could potentially stretch out your skin. Rest assured, we will not let this happen!

Can Anyone Get Lip Fillers?

Most people can get lip fillers, but it’s best to do so if you’re in good health, have realistic expectations, and want to enhance the size or shape of your lips. If you have active infections, allergies to the filler ingredients, or certain medical conditions, it’s better to avoid this procedure.

Do Lip Filler Injections Hurt?

If a patient experiences any discomfort from lip filler injections, it is usually minimal. We use either numbing cream or a dental block to reduce pain. You might feel a very slight pinch or pressure during the procedure. Afterward, there may be some mild swelling or tenderness, but these symptoms usually go away within a few days.

How Long Will Lip Filler Last?

Lip fillers typically last 6 to 12 months, but this can change based on several factors, such as the type of filler used and how fast your body breaks it down.

Fillers like Juvederm and Restylane typically last about 6 to 12 months. If you want to keep the fullness of your lips, you might need lip injections once a year.

How Much Will Lip Filler Cost?

Most places charge between $500 and $1000 per syringe of filler. At Curated Medical, we charge between $700 per syringe. We also offer discounts through our membership program to help lower the overall cost of treatments.
