A dermal filler appointment is 30 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on the areas treated. For example, a lip filler appointment is typically around 30 minutes while an appointment to treat the cheeks, chin and jawline will take 1 hour and 15 minutes. During your appointment, we will discuss your goals, take pictures, go over your health history and perform the injections. The injections themselves take as little as 5-10 minutes per area treated.
During your appointment, we will first clean your skin and take before photos. We will then apply topical numbing cream or inject lidocaine to numb the areas being treated. Once you are numb, we will use very small needles or blunt tipped cannulas to inject the filler. During the appointment, you will be able to see what the results look like, although you may have some swelling or bruising.
After the procedure, you may have some swelling and possible bruising. It is also normal to be sore for a couple of days. The initial swelling and bruising will usually last 3-5 days. Although you will see a result right away, it takes about 3 weeks for the filler to fully settle. For Sculptra, results are seen in 6-8 weeks.
Dermal fillers last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. This will depend on the type of filler used, the amount used, and how your body metabolizes the filler. In general, lip filler lasts around 6-12 months while cheek, chin and jawline may last 12+ months.
Dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid (Juvederm, Restylane, RHA), calcium hydroxyapatite (Radiesse), or poly-l-lactic acid (Sculptra). These are all substances that are found naturally in the body, which makes them very safe and have little risk for any kind of reaction.
No, your face will not be saggy once the filler is gone. At Curated Medical, we are very conscious of long-term results and will only perform treatments that we know will benefit our clients long-term. The key here is to replace volume in areas where it has already been lost, so there is “space” for filler.
Aside from the face, we can also use filler in body areas. This includes ear lobes, the backs of your hands to hide tendons and veins, above your knees for crepey skin, to hide cellulite, and even to increase the size of the buttocks or hide “hip dips.” Typically for buttocks injections, we will use either Sculptra or Radiesse.
Filler is a very safe and effective treatment when used correctly. At Curated Medical, we have a deep and thorough understanding of facial aging and how to use filler safely. Filler can cause damage when too much is used or when it is used in the wrong plane of your face. This is why it is important to choose a highly educated provider.
Patients choose to get filler because they are noticing signs of aging. Typically, these signs of aging lead to the appearance of negative emotions (anger, sadness, tiredness), which don’t match the way someone feels on the inside. Our job is to help you look the way you feel and provide you with results that offer meaningful change without making you look unnatural or abnormal.
