What is a PDO Thread Lift?

Considered a noninvasive (and less expensive!) alternative to the traditional facelift, a PDO thread lift is an outpatient aesthetic procedure that uses threads made out of polydioxanone (PDO) which is a dissolvable suture material. These threads can be used for liftings, like in the cheeks or jawline, or collagen-building/skin strengthening. The collagen-building threads can be used in the under eyes, for fine lines, tightening the skin under your chin, neck, abdomen, or other body areas.

What areas can a PDO thread lift treat?

PDO‌ ‌Thread‌ ‌Lift‌ Q & A

Is PDO thread lift painful?

The PDO thread lift procedure is more invasive than filler but with adequate numbing, the treatment is still relatively comfortable. Lidocaine is injected into the treatment areas, once this is done you will only feel some tugging but shouldn’t have much pain. Most patients say that numbing is the worst part.

How long does the procedure take?

Your PDO thread appointment will be about an hour but most of this time is spent numbing and preparing. Inserting the threads only takes 5-10 minutes per area.

Are there things I need to do before and after my procedure?

Before your procedure, you may be advised to avoid alcohol, turmeric, NSAIDs, and fish oil supplements.
After your PDO thread lift, there are a few important things you should know. For the first 5 days, you will need to avoid exercise and exaggerated facial movements. You will also need to sleep on your back. Facial treatments need to be avoided for one month after your procedure. It is common to have soreness, swelling, and possible bruising for a couple of days as well as “zings” or pulling feelings for a couple of weeks.

Is there any downtime after a PDO thread lift?

It is common to have soreness, swelling, and possible bruising for a couple of days as well as “zings” or pulling feelings for a couple of weeks.

When will I see results and how long will they last?

You’ll see skin tightening and lifting immediately! The initial result will “relax” a little bit over a couple of weeks but the stimulated collagen production will continue to improve and smooth your skin over 6-8 weeks. Typically the final result is seen around 6-8 weeks. Results last up to 9 months, generally peaking at around six months.
